Gashora, Rwanda — Volkswagen Mobility Solutions Rwanda, in collaboration with the Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture (RICA), is proud to announce the official launch of the GenFarm Project, an
initiative designed to transform Rwandan agriculture by introducing electric tractors into rural farming communities. The launch event took place at RICA campus in Gashora, Eastern Province.
The Gen Farm Project aims to introduce cutting-edge electric tractors to rural farmers, empowering them with more efficient, sustainable, and eco-friendly farming solutions. Introducing electric tractors is expected to increase productivity, reduce manual labor, and improve overall farming efficiency while promoting sustainability through reducing carbon emissions.During the launch of the carbon-neutral project, Volkswagen Mobility Solutions Rwanda also handed over a new MK1 Electric Tractor to RICA. This handover marks the beginning of their collaboration, as outlined in the initial agreement between the two institutions, to conduct farm trails with electric tractors.
Serge Kamuhinda, CEO of Volkswagen Mobility Solutions Rwanda, commented on this new chapter for Rwanda’s agricultural future, saying,

As part of this collaboration, RICA’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ron Rosati, highlighted the importance of this groundbreaking partnership, stating,

By adopting this technology, RICA is not only driving the mechanization of agriculture but also demonstrating that productivity and environmental responsibility can coexist. The Gen Farm Project will begin its pilot phase in Gashora, with plans to expand to other rural communities in Rwanda in the coming months. Through this initiative, Volkswagen and RICA are poised to make a lasting impact on the agricultural sector, leading the charge towards a greener and more productive future.
