Our Leaders

Dr. Ferguson holds a Bachelor of Science from Friends University, and Master of Science and doctorate degrees are from Kansas State University, both in the United States. His research focuses on site-specific nutrient management and improving nitrogen use efficiency of irrigated cropping systems. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on site-specific crop management and spatial variability of soil. He also has led Extension educational programs in Nebraska focused on improving nitrogen use efficiency of irrigated maize and minimizing nitrate loss to groundwater. Dr. Ferguson is a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy, the Soil Science Society of America, and the Dougherty Water for Food Institute. He can be reached via email at rferguson@rica.rw

Ms. Bwakira holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the United States International University. She has decades of experience in the education, program management, operations, communications and information management, gained while working for various United Nations agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations and private sector entities. She is an integral part of managing day-to-day operations of RICA.

Mr. Kayisinga holds a Bachelor of Science in Soil Sciences and Rural Engineering from the University of Rwanda and a Master of Agribusiness (MAB) from Texas A&M University in the United States. His previous work includes serving as the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources of the Government of Rwanda, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB), and a Country Director of the Clinton Foundation’s Clinton Development Initiative in Rwanda. Ms. Ntukanyagwe holds master’s degrees in public and development policy from the University of Cape Town and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Kwazulu-Natal. Here key focus is the development and execution of responsive and progressive student-centered programs and services that support students’ academic growth, and personal development.
