Student Leadership Opportunities
RICA offers students many opportunities to stand out, hone their leadership skills, and make their mark on campus
Student Representative Council
The Student Representative Council, or SRC, acts as the voice of RICA students. This includes bridging communications between students and the administration, managing daily academic and social concerns, organizing campus initiatives, and advocating for student interests. The SRC is managed by a council president, vice president, secretary, community service and activities chairs, enabling students to take on leadership roles within the organization.
Arbitration Committee
RICA’s student-led Arbitration Committee oversees student leadership elections, conducts swearing-in ceremonies, ensures SRC leaders adhere to rules and regulations, and resolves conflicts within the student community.
Cohort Coordinators
Cohort Coordinators advocate for their fellow students’ academic interests and wellbeing. They serve as a bridge between students and RICA’s faculty and administration, collaborate with community leaders and the SRC to address student concerns, participate in conflict mediation, and assist with planning extracurricular activities.
Community Leaders
Community Leaders represent students in their housing communities, addressing residential concerns, organizing activities, and serving as mediators between residents and campus leadership. They ensure student voices are heard in matters affecting campus living.
Residential Assistants
Residential Assistants are peer advisors who live and work with student residents to assist them in addressing personal, interpersonal, and academic needs within the residence hall and RICA community. They foster a sense of belonging and build community by getting to know residents and planning and implementing residential activities, while maintaining a secure environment and ensuring adherence to residence and campus rules and policies.
RICA Peer Mentorship
Peer mentors guide new students through academic and social transitions at RICA, provide support, share campus experiences, and help first-year students adapt to campus life while creating a welcoming environment that fosters student success from the first day on campus.
RICA Students’ Cooperative (RISCO) Leaders
RISCO Leaders are students who oversee the operation of first-year farms as profitable agribusinesses, as part of RICA’s cooperative farming program. They coordinate production, marketing, resource mobilization, and equitable profit-sharing while learning cooperative entrepreneurship.
Club Representatives
There are numerous social and activity-based clubs on RICA’s campus, and many of these clubs offer opportunities to take on leadership roles. Student clubs organize and manage a wide variety of campus events, speaker series, creative performances, sporting events, competitions, and more – providing a diverse range of opportunities for students to make their mark.
